Munich – day 4
We tried in vain to get up early but it’s no use. The curtains are too good, the house too warm, the sun doesn’t come up early enough and my travel clock which I purchased in the UK keeps setting itself to UK time and therefore can’t be trusted. Once again we didn’t leave the house today until lunchtime. We went to a nearby cafe and had coffee and cake although we struggled a little with the waitress who spoke very little English. We are trying very hard with German and have done some online lessons with the BBC Language centre. It helps a little bit to feel that you can a say a few words of German. German people seem very friendly and respond kindly to the effort you make. Although Germans speak some English (especially the younger ones) we did find a few people today who we couldn’t communicate with. After our coffee we caught the tram into town again and visited the railway station get some information about day trips to Salzburg, Duchau and the mountains. We also bought our weekly passes for the public transport which were very reasonable -15 Euros each. We walked to the Marienplatz in search of some winter shoes for me and also managed to drink some more Gluhwein. After not buying any shoes we went back to the Viktualienmarkt which we visited yesterday and bought some Bratwurst for dinner and some fresh Beans We caught the wrong tram home and got a little lost but we eventually found our way. We’re home now and Mark is in the kitchen cooking. It’s smells very good!
