Munich - Christmas Day
Merry Christmas to all! We have enjoyed hearing from all the friends and relatives in the other hemisphere over the past day. Everyone seems to have had a good Christmas. After our misfortune with the Christmas shopping we weren't sure how ours would pan out but I think it's been OK. We had a lazy start with breakfast in bed. Mark was very slow getting up but he says he was organising bookings for our travel within NZ when we get back. He's very good at organisation in general. Not so good at getting out of bed! Once we were up we went for a walk. Munich is colder today - around 2 degrees most of the day. Suprisingly we found a pub/cafe open at Max Weiber Platz and a waiter who spoke some english. We both had schnitzel with fries and a beer. OK it's not quite the usual Christmas fare but we enjoyed it all the same. I finished off with a single malt whiskey and a piece of cherry cake while Mark ordered some deep fried apple rings with ice-cream (not what he was expecting from the menu) Afterwards we returned home where we have been on the couch for most of the evening watching Top Gear Winter Olympics and French and Saunders re-runs. I'm off skiing tommorow which means getting up at 5:30 to get to the coach on time. It seems like we're going to have a White Christmas after all - the snow has been falling on and off all evening and the cold snap means that it will be likely to hang around. Christmas has made us a little more homesick and although we've enjoyed our holiday we're excited to be back soon! Merry Christmas once again (especially to Gus and Nina)
